Solving the "No Job Offer" Problem (Interviews)

by Randall Scasny, Director, FS5 Consulting Business Card

At this point, you are competing against others as qualified as yourself.

If you are invited to the employer's office to have a sit down, face-to-face, meeting, you passed the screening call. You are one of the finalists.

This is good.

But then you find out you didn't get the job. Why?

Most of the time it's not your fault. Internal candidates are usually preferred over external candidates. Current employee referrals have a lot of clout.

You can't do anything about the internal candidate. So, what happens when there isn't one and you didn't get the job.

If you feel you don't interview well, start over and take a course on job interviewing. Doing interview play acting works well, too.

But for those finalists who do interview well, the real issue is how you mirror what the employer is seeking. At this point, the employers are seeking the perfect candidate. They want someone who exactly mirrors what they want.

This mirroring begins with your job application selections and how you target your resume in the first place. Select jobs to apply to that you have 90% of the basic and desired qualifications. I know it sounds extreme but we are living in an extreme job seeking age.
